Students on Ice visit:

The Students on Ice 2007 Arctic expedition visited Coats Island on August 6 as part of their travels through the Eastern Canadian Arctic.  Students from around the world visited the research camp above the Thick-billed Murre colony to learn about seabirds and their role in the Arctic ecosystem.  The student cruise focused on International Polar Year activities, and their visit to Coats Island provided a first hand look at how scientists are studying seabirds as indicators of climate change in Arctic ecosystems.

Guy Savard and Jennifer Provencher taught students at Nunavut Arctic College how to dissect and prepare tissue samples from murres collected for the IPY project.  Students James Simonee and Maria Quqsuut stayed for the weekend to help dissect the 2008 murre samples.
